Owning a pet can get expensive if you don’t pay attention to the cost of things. If you’re like me, you love your pet so much that you have a hard time not indulging in their every need. I’m not suggesting that you don’t continue to spoil your pet, but there are probably some ways you can cut back on how much you spend on things like toys, food and healthcare.

Have you ever noticed that similar to children, pets often enjoy playing with things they find around the house more than they enjoy the fancy store bought stuff? Saving money on toys could be the most guilt free experience ever when you see how much happiness a homemade toy can bring to your pet. You can use everyday household items, old clothing, or even what could be considered trash, to entertain your pet with minimal to no cost.
Adopt vs. Buy
If you are still in the decision-making process of owning a pet and have yet to choose your new best friend, the biggest way to save money is adopting instead of buying an animal. Not only does it give you the opportunity to spend way less, it gives a needy animal a home and potentially saves its life. There are so many neglected and forgotten animals out there who are in places that do not have the resources to continue taking care of them.
